DIRECT TRADE FARM SPOTLIGHT
We are super excited to announce our direct trade partnership with Burka Gudina Farms. We were fortunate enough to cross paths with owner, Ibrahim Hussien, when he visited the states in 2016. After chatting with him and hearing his story, we knew that we had to work with him.
ABOUT THE FARM
Burka Gudina, which means "Where Blessings Grow", is owned and operated by Ibrahim. Ibrahim's passion for coffee began with his grandfather. One day in the early 1930's, Ibrahim's grandfather decided to walk from Wollo to the Limu Region to begin a career growing coffee. The farm was passed down to his son who continued the family business until the Mengistu regime took over the Ethiopian government and confiscated all of the coffee farms.
11 years later, Ibrahim purchased 250 hectares of farmland in the Limu Region, 150 of which is used for coffee production. During its peak season, the farm employs 120 farmhands and during the off-season they employ 40 farmhands. In addition to maintaining his farm, Ibrahim is the Vice President of the Coffee Exporters, Farmers and Growers Association in Ethiopia.
